Countesswells Sports Field
Our playing fields and outdoor sports facilities at Countesswells are a short drive from our Schoolhill Campus and boasts 3 International sized rugby pitches with 5 other pitches of sizes to suit our teams from Primary 6 up to under 16. This includes a large fully floodlit training area approximately the size of two pitches.
We have an International standard water-based hockey pitch allowing our teams to play on the very best of surfaces. Our senior teams have benefitted enormously from the quality of this pitch. There is a full size sand based Hockey pitch which becomes 12 Tennis Courts in the summer term accompanied by 2 large and 4 smaller grass Hockey pitches which we use during the week and for our younger teams.
In the summer term we have 3 synthetic Cricket nets and two synthetic wickets with a very high standard main square and 4 other grass wickets.
The quality and investment evident at the playing fields reflects the importance the College places on curricular and team sports. Visiting teams comment on the exceptional quality of the grass and synthetic pitches, whether for rugby in front of the 300 seat stand, or for cricket or hockey.
These facilities are well used for curricular Games from Primary 4 upwards every week. On Saturday morning the pitches are a hive of activity for school teams of all ages and the Parents Association help to provide meals for visiting teams and coffee and bacon rolls for the spectators and the whole Gordon’s community. It is a venue that needs to be visited, particularly on a match day to experience the life and energy that our pupils enjoy.
