Our Junior School Library is at the centre of school life. Encouraging a love of reading is one of the most important things we can do as a Junior School, and our new state of the art Library helps us to do this very effectively. We have our own full time Librarian, Mrs Lloyd-Wiggins. The Library is extremely well stocked with a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books suitable for every year group of children – Nursery through to Primary 7.
Classes are timetabled to visit the Library on a weekly basis to borrow books as part of the School’s emphasis on every pupil participating in a personal reading programme. The Class Teacher is there to advise pupils to choose a level of book appropriate for their reading ability and the Librarian advises on titles that appeal to the child’s interests. The idea is that pupils should choose a book they can complete reading in a week.
We also run two ‘Bookworms’ clubs at lunchtime. Here children can take part in book related activities. We also have an open lunchtime quiet reading session on differing weekdays for each year group.
