Mathematics

Our programme for Mathematics and Numeracy is highly structured. This is to enable children to develop a secure understanding of the concepts, principles and processes of Mathematics and to be able to apply these in different contexts.

The Mathematics curriculum is based on Curriculum for Excellence guidelines and covers the areas of Number, Money, Measurement, Shape, Position, Movement and Information Handling.

Mathematics is taught on a daily basis from P1 - P7 and at P4 - P7 children are set across their year group. Movement between sets takes place as and when required.

We place a strong emphasis on Mental Mathematics and this is taught on a daily basis as part of the lesson.

We use TeeJay Maths texts as our main resource.

We also use the Schofield Mental Arithmetic scheme and have a structured Problem Solving programme in place.
