Golf Finals - the results!

After some excellent performances this year, a narrow victory over Gordonstoun last month means that the Robert Gordon's College golf team, for the first time ever, qualified for the National Finals to be held in St Andrews this weekend.  This is a great achievement for Steven S, Neale B and Zac C, who were presented with playing tops from the Gordonian Golf Club - Ivor Primrose, club secretary, is pictured here after presenting the shirts to the boys, and teacher Richie Anderson.

This is a prestigious competition organised by the Independent Schools Golf Association, and RGC were competing against last year's winners Millfield and Runners Up Loretto from Musselburgh, near Edinburgh along with the 14 other qualifying teams.  The High School of Glasgow was the only other qualifying team from Scotland.

The finals included an overnight stay at the 5 star Fairmont hotel in St Andrews.  The team played the Kittocks on the Sunday in dire weather which meant the scoring was not low, and Torrance course on the Monday.  There was some Rain on both days, but in particular wind that made the course very difficult.
The boys played well on the Monday where they were 3rd (out of 18) but after not doing so well the previous day they had too much to make up, finishing 8th overall.

Zak had a 79 and Neale had an 81 on Monday when the best round of the day was 75 so they have both done well.  The biggest success for the College though is that the teachers played on the Sunday and Mr Richie Anderson of Gordon's won the competition with an 80 by one shot!

In other golf news, Jack Scott (S6) is currently in the Scottish Under 18 National Golf Squad and has been travelling all over the UK and Europe representing his country.  Unfortunately he had to turn down a trip to Portugal due to the Prelim examinations, but he did travel to Sardinia last month to play against France, Sweden and Italy.
