The annual CCF prizegiving took place on Tuesday 19th June in the College Governors’ Room. We were delighted to welcome Mr James Ingleby, Lord Lieutenant of Aberdeenshire, accompanied by his wife, Councillor Moira Ingleby. Mr Ingleby presented several of the awards. We were also very pleased to see former Deputy Head Mrs Rona Livingstone, Gordonian Mr Alex Urquhart, former CCF Officer and RGC parent Capt (Rtd) David Morris and RGC colleague Maj (Rtd) Kevin Cowie, all of whom have donated trophies which are presented annually, and who were able to hand over their own trophies in person. We are grateful to them all for taking the time to join us for the event and we congratulate all award winners.

Following the prizegiving, Mr Ingleby presented the Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet Badge and Certificate to Sgt Niall McDowell of our CCF Army Section. We were very pleased to welcome members of Niall’s family who attended the presentation. As Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet, Niall will accompany the Lord Lieutenant when he attends official events during the coming year. In his citation, Niall was described a young man with high personal standards and enthusiasm who, from his earliest days as a cadet, rapidly acquired new skills and passed them on to his fellow cadets with care and energy. He is a natural leader who can be relied upon to support and organise cadets of all ages and experience. It is however particularly telling that, despite all experience and skills developed, he counts gaining in confidence and developing lasting friendships as his most valued achievements during his CCF time.

CCF cadets and staff are looking forward to a wide range of activities over the summer, including Army Section camp at Barry Buddon and RAF Section Camp in Cornwall. Cadets will also travel to Cyprus and Gibraltar and will participate in the prestigious Air Cadet Leadership Course at RAF Cranwell. CCF musicians will also be active in piping and drumming during the break.
