Music plays a central role in the life of Robert Gordon’s College.

The Music Department is located throughout the Auld Hoose and the Junior School, and comprises nine members of staff and eight visiting instrumental instructors. Pupils follow a common course from P1 to S2 and then have the option of taking the National 5 course in S3 and S4.  As part of our National 5 courses, pupils also complete the Added Value Unit for National 4 which in Music takes the form of a performance. Higher and Advanced Higher courses are offered in S5 & S6.

The Department also offers instrumental lessons on the complete range of orchestral and band instruments, as well as voice. Every week, a huge number of pupils take advantage of the considerable opportunities that exist, both in the curriculum and in a vast range of extra-curricular musical activities.

Central to the work of the Music Department is a desire to encourage pupils to broaden their musical horizons and to give of their very best at whatever level they can achieve. The heartbeat of any school is a thriving programme of music-making. This is certainly true of Robert Gordon’s College.
