Senior School Library
The Senior School Library was opened by HRH The Princess Royal in 2000, the College’s 250th Anniversary year, providing an environment that encourages scholarly engagement as well as fostering an enjoyment of reading for pleasure.
The library is open each day from 8.30am - 5.00pm, including break and lunchtime, and can accommodate up to 70 pupils at a time.
Our collection comprises over 15,000 books, including fiction and non-fiction, which can be searched using Oliver, the library’s online catalogue. We also use a digital platform, ePlatform, where pupils can borrow up to 2,800 audiobooks and EPubs.
We provide access to numerous online resources such as JSTOR, Issues Online, Hodder Education, The Day, and ClickView. In addition, we offer a selection of manga and graphic novels, printed journals and magazines including The Economist, New Scientist, History, The Week, as well as a staff CPD collection.
Throughout the academic year, the library organises workshops to support pupils’ studies and develop their research skills. These include sessions on plagiarism, referencing, and using academic sources. The librarians also deliver “History of RGC” workshops for all S1 pupils and coordinate events such as World Book Day, quizzes, the Grampian Children's Book Awards, the Library Music Recital, National Reading Competition, and various activities and workshops celebrating diversity.
There are lunchtime chess sessions, as well as opportunities to play card games, Scrabble, memory cards, mindful colouring, and art and crafts. We also host guest speakers as part of our Agora Lecture Series.
The book collection is regularly updated with new titles, many of which are recommended or requested by pupils.
