75th Ōtaki Scholar's Kiwi Journey

Cameron (Class of '18) shares highlights from his Otaki Scholar trip in summer.

In the summer of this year I travelled to New Zealand as part of my Ōtaki scholarship, being hosted by student's from all over NZ!

I began my journey in Ōtaki, where I attended a leadership conference, meeting over 40 students from different schools up and down the country, many of which I would then go on to meet again on my travels around New Zealand. Highlights included visiting the great war museum as part of the leadership forum, being involved in several wreath laying ceremonies and meeting the Governor General, Dame Patsy Reddy. THE highlight, however, was meeting the Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern. I feel honoured to have had such a privilege.

Although New Zealand has so much to offer in terms of the outdoors with stunning scenery and wonderful landscapes, it was not these which made my trip so memorable. It was the people that I met along the way who made my journey truly remarkable. The people and the scenery alike, I met beautiful people and forged friendships which will last a lifetime and made connections I could only have dreamt of.
