Aberdeen City Council and Robert Gordon’s College collaborated in a wonderful celebration of music for the Aberdeen Big Sing 2023.
Held at the Duthie Park, our Primary 4 children joined 2500 school pupils from across the city to perform in a massed choir singing songs such as “Happy Song”, “Power in Me” and “Count on Me”.
Opening with a musical performance from the RGC Pipe Band, Primary 4 then took to the stage to sing their hearts out to an excited audience, something that they have been working towards since October 2022.
Speaking about the event, Mrs Webb, Head of Junior School shared: “It was just great to see so many children from almost all the schools in Aberdeen gather to sing together. Research reveals that group singing not only helps forge social bonds but acts as a great way to make new friends. That was what happened today at the beautiful Duthie Park. It was lovely seeing children waving to their friends from different schools. I was hugely impressed with our fabulous pipe band playing to welcome all the children. I want to thank all the staff who have worked behind the scenes and supporting all the children to make this our first Big Sing. We hope to continue this as an annual event. The smiles on the children’s faces said it all!”
Mrs Constable, Junior School Teacher of Music commented: “It was a joy to be part of this collaborative event. To hear and see so many happy children from across the city all participating together was inspiring. The energy and excitement of performing together was evident and it was a wonderful being outdoors with a live band accompanying the children. They filled the air with singing, thank you and well done everyone!”
Mrs Main, Junior School Teacher added: “Excitement levels have been building in Primary 4 for some weeks as we have been learning and rehearsing the songs to perform at Duthie Park today. It was such an exciting experience for our young performers who made life-long memories as they sang shoulder to shoulder with old and new friends from across our city. An inspiring initiative that brought everyone together in such a joyous way!”
