Aberdeen's Shiprow is set to burst into a kaleidoscope of colour, music, and dance on Saturday 18th May as the city launches its Umbrella Project, a vibrant celebration of neurodiversity. The event, organised by Aberdeen Inspired in partnership with the ADHD Foundation, aims to raise awareness and celebrate that one in five people are neurodiverse.

The launch ceremony, scheduled for 11 am, promises a wonderful display of local talent, with performers ranging from dancers and pipe bands to inclusive choirs and theatre groups. 

Robin Macpherson, Head of College, shared: "We are proud to be supporting Aberdeen Inspired and the ADHD Foundation's Aberdeen Umbrella Project again this year. Our partnership has been pivotal in raising awareness of neurodiversity and it has stimulated conversations in our community and across Aberdeen as a result. Having the umbrellas at RGC was a really positive message for our own pupils and parents, and our staff have really benefited from the professional learning support of the ADHD Foundation.

"Our Pipe Band is delighted to be supporting the launch of the project again this year because it really helps to bring people together in a spirit of celebration. We are always willing to play our part for neurodiversity in the Aberdeen community."

“There is, of course, a fantastic message behind not just the launch but the display itself. The Umbrella Project reflects, raises awareness, and celebrates the fact that one in five people are neurodiverse. We would welcome as many people as possible on Saturday, May 18, to be part of that celebration.”

The Umbrella Project which will run until September is a tribute to the “umbrella” term of neurodiversity, which includes ADHD, autism, Tourette's Syndrome, dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyspraxia.

The Umbrella Project, supported by headline sponsor Harbour Energy along with TMM Recruitment and CNR International, extends its reach beyond Shiprow, encouraging schools and businesses to create their own installations celebrating the intelligence and abilities of all individuals.
