Masters Hockey Celtic Cup

Over the Easter weekend, the first official Celtic Cup tournament was hosted by Scottish Masters Hockey (SMH). This year it was played over Easter Weekend 15th-17th April at Countesswells Playing Fields, bringing together players, officials and spectators from the four Celtic nations of France, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. There were also a few former pupils participating in the cup: Bernie Morrison, Class of ‘72, Billy Taylor, Class of ‘74 and Charlie Benzies, Class of ‘73.

Bernie Morrison is the Vice President of Scottish Masters Hockey delegated by Scottish Hockey to look after international Masters hockey (15 squads in total) on a global basis. Bernie commented: “The event was a tremendous success and all nations thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Scotland 060s won their tournament. Scotland 065s shared the title with Ireland and Scotland 070s were runners-up so we really could not have achieved much more. A special mention goes to Donny Reid and his team at Countesswells. They are a tremendous asset and could not do enough to support our organisers, going out of their way to deal with any request we had. Also, the President of World Masters Hockey and Chair of Scottish Hockey were both in attendance at the event and stated that it was one of the best venues they have used for such a world ranking event."
