Tale as old as time, song as old as rhyme, Beauty and the Beast

Pupils took to the stage with their outstanding production of Beauty and the Beast, bringing the much loved Disney story to life.

With a sprinkling of Disney magic, pupils performed four shows in the MacRobert Hall, with children excelling in acting, singing, dancing, set design, costume, and technical support. From the opening number to the final bow, audiences were captivated by the performances and the commitment of every cast and crew member involved.

Adding to the magic of the production, our Senior School pupils had a helping hand from some of our friends in the Junior School. Francesca, Beth, Ryan and Sam (P4) shared the role of ‘Chip’, delighting the audience with their enthusiasm and confidence on stage.

Sam shared: “I loved performing in Beauty and the Beast because it was so special to be part of the Senior show, they are all so kind and talented. My rugby coach was The Beast and he was really good. I also got to perform with my brother which was lots of fun. Being in a show is my favourite thing to do at RGC and we have the best drama and music teachers. One of my other favourite things was watching all of our friends support us in the audience - even the rugby team cheered us all on!”

Erin S (S5) said: “Being involved in this year’s senior school show - Beauty and the Beast was a huge highlight for me and I was delighted to be cast as Belle. It has helped me grow in confidence and challenge myself. I have really enjoyed getting to know and building friendships with students from other year groups - something I wouldn’t have been able to do without the show. Alongside that, balancing rehearsals and schoolwork improved my time management and sense of responsibility. Most importantly I have learnt about the strength of working in a team. Having the opportunity to be Belle is a memory that I will cherish forever.”

Mrs Massie, Head of Creative Arts, summarised: “This production beautifully highlighted the exceptional talent and collaborative spirit of both our pupils and staff. From the backstage team to the tech team, every contribution created a professional and supportive environment that allowed our performers to shine on stage while providing opportunities for pupils to develop valuable technical skills behind the scenes. I am immensely proud of everyone involved in bringing Disney’s Beauty and the Beast to the MacRobert Hall. The production was a remarkable demonstration of creativity, teamwork, and community spirit, and it was a joy to witness the hall filled with such enthusiasm and support across four performances. We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to families and the wider school community for supporting the pupils during this busy and exciting time.”

Beauty and the Beast is a classic fairy tale which follows the story of a young woman named Belle who takes her father’s place as a prisoner in the castle of a monstrous Beast. However the Beast may not be so monstrous after all. He is a cursed prince who must learn to love and be loved in return before the last petal falls from an enchanted rose.
