From wee poems to big celebrations: A week of Burns at RGC

The Robert Gordon’s  community has been celebrating Scotland’s National Bard in true Scottish style through a series of Burns events.

Primary 3 share Scots poetry

Our Primary 3 pupils have had a fantastic time diving into the world of Robert Burns. Channelling their inner poets, they wrote original Scots verses using alliteration to pair Scots adjectives and nouns for comic effect. From ‘clarty coos in their cutty kilts’ to a ‘mauchit moose wi twa muckle airms’, their results are outstanding. The children finished their project by illustrating their poems, capturing the mischief their wee animals were getting into.

S1 Burns Supper

S1 pupils welcomed their families to a spectacular Burns Supper evening in the Thomas Mackie Dining Hall, celebrating Scottish culture through food, music, dance and shared community spirit.

Joined by school captains (Fraser, Fleur, Abbie and Finlay), as well as members of staff, S1 pupils showcased a number of poems, readings, Highland dances and songs to a captivated audience. This was followed by the traditional piping in of the haggis, along with the Address to a Haggis, and the Toast to the Haggis, all delivered with great enthusiasm and pride. The evening concluded with a rousing Auld Lang Syne, sung by all S1 pupils and accompanied by Mr Pearson before the Senior School Pipe Band brought proceedings to a close.
