Careers team hosts events to support pupil pathways

The start of the new academic year has been an exciting time for our school’s Universities and Careers team, who have already hosted a series of events designed to support pupils in planning and progressing their future career pathways.

The first of these events was the S4 Parents’ Information Evening, which took place on 28th August. This session, aimed at both parents and pupils, marked the first parents’ evening of the year with a strong focus on Careers and Learning Strategies.  Presentations were delivered by Mrs Cowie, Deputy Head, Mrs Wood, Principal Teacher of Transition, and Miss Braid, Universities and Careers Assistant.  Mrs Pirie, Head of Universities and Careers, was also on hand to assist with any questions. Despite the wet weather, the turnout was fantastic, and it was encouraging to see such high levels of interest from families.

The following week, on 4th September, around 60 of our S5 and S6 pupils attended the 2024 UCAS Discovery Day at RGU. This annual event offers school pupils the chance to meet representatives of Scottish universities, colleges and even the armed forces. With presentations and stalls on a wide range of topics, pupils were able to ask questions, gather information, and kickstart their beyond school planning. Mrs Pirie and Miss Braid really enjoyed speaking to pupils during the event as they enthusiastically explored different options and began mapping out potential pathways.

To close out the week, on 6th September, we hosted Lindsay Robinot-Jones, the School's Liaison Officer from The Homerton College, Cambridge, as part of the college’s Scottish Schools Tour. Schools across Aberdeen City and Shire were invited to attend her presentation, and it was wonderful to see so many parents and pupils participating. This was an excellent opportunity for pupils interested in applying to Cambridge to learn about the admissions process and gain valuable insights into what it takes to study at one the world’s top universities. The event was a resounding success.

We are incredibly proud of the engagement shown by our pupils and parents during these early events and are excited to continue offering guidance and support as they explore their future pathways.
