CCF Update: June 2025

From immersive Field Days to prestigious awards and standout performances, June was filled with memorable moments for our CCF cadets and Pipe Band.

Army and RAF

At the beginning of June, cadets from both the Army and RAF sections took part in their Field Days, a vital part of their training that brings the syllabus to life through practical, hands-on experience.

Across a range of activities - from fieldcraft, navigation, and camouflage, to more advanced skills such as marksmanship and the principles of flight - cadets developed both technical ability and core leadership qualities. These sessions placed a strong emphasis on teamwork, with cadets working in groups to solve challenges and complete objectives, building both confidence and camaraderie along the way.

At the end of term, the contingent assembled outside the Auld Hoose for their annual Prizegiving Ceremony. During the ceremony, a number of awards were presented, including the appointment of Murray as Pipe Major and Manuel as Drum Major for the 2025-2026 academic session. Both pupils will now act as mentors, demonstrating the core values and ethos of the Pipe Band, along with its culture and traditions.

Senior School pupil James was presented with his Lord Lieutenant's Cadet certificate by the Lord Provost at a private ceremony in the Aberdeen Town House. We are delighted to share that James’ first official duty in this prestigious role was to accompany the Lord Lieutenant on the dais during the Armed Forces Day Parade (photo credit: Norman Adams, Aberdeen City Council).

Finally, to mark the end of their Combined Cadet Force journey, our S6 cadets attended the Gordon Highlanders Museum for the annual S6 Dine Out. They were served by some of their younger peers, who will look forward to their own dine out privilege in the years to come.

Pipe Band

For the third consecutive year, the Pipe Band were delighted to support Maggie’s Culture Crawl. The pupils performed as they welcomed walkers through the gates of Countesswells for much-needed refreshments.

At the end of June, North East of Scotland Burns Champions and Primary 7 pupils Aled, Andrew, and Larry delivered a memorable performance at the opening of the Burns Federation Cutty Sark Celebration Concert. Held in The Masonic Temple, the boys played to a distinguished audience, including Princess Mayolene MacDonald and Deputy Lieutenant Graham Guyan (photo credit: www.emersonphotography.com).
