Gordon Grant, Facilities Supervisor at Countesswells Sports Field, completed a charity cycle from Lands End to John O’Groats, raising funds for Charlie House.
He cycled the 1190 miles on his own, carried all of his own gear and was met with some torrential weather conditions along the way.
Sharing more about this experience, Gordy said: “I met lots of kind people throughout the three week journey who asked about the charity and donated along the way. Experience. After receiving a LEJOG book from my sister, I wanted to challenge myself to fullfill a lifelong ambition. I chose Charlie House as I have seen RGC parents fundraising for this local charity and thought of nothing better than helping their cause.
Donny Reid, Head Groundsman tracked Gordy’s progress and kept in contact with him throughout. Donny commented: “A keen cyclist, Gordy travels over 10,000 miles per year and carefully plans any weekend that he is not working on a route for his next adventure with his tent and camping stove.
“Not one for taking the shortest route to and from work, it wasn't a surprise when he told me he was going to do Lands End to John O’Groats. Gordy started his adventure from his home town in Inverness. Racking up 1190 miles he also completed part of the North Coast 500. He stayed in 17 hotels, had one puncture and a broken mudguard.
“We are all really proud of Gordy. He is such a kind, hard working gentleman who can regularly be seen cycling around the area. He is now thinking about his next challenge, so watch this space!”
Charlie House is a local charity supporting families with life limiting conditions across the North-east of Scotland. If you would like to support Gordy on his fundraising mission there is still time to donate online.
