The Cosmos Club braved the chilly weather for an evening under the stars at Templars’ Park. 

After letting their eyes adjust to the first dark sky night of the year, the pupils got to work viewing Jupiter and its four main moons through a number of telescopes and cameras.

They were also tasked with finding major constellations before discovering and expanding their knowledge on other lesser known constellations. 

As the evening drew to a close, the constellation Orion rose over the trees where the pupils were able to view the Orion Nebula whilst discussing the reasons behind the variations in colour between the stars.

Mrs Carnegie, Teacher of Physics, shared: “All of the pupils were fantastic and full of enthusiasm throughout the evening, despite the cold. We couldn’t have asked for a better evening for our first venture out with the scopes in 2024 and very much look forward to our next observation evening soon when we will focus on astrophotography.”
