Going the extra mile: Oliver’s inspiring triathlon for charity

S3 pupil Oliver has taken his Duke of Edinburgh’s Award charity volunteering to the next level by raising over £900 for Edukid, a charity that aims to remove the barriers to education faced by children living in poverty and conflict around the world.

Determined to make a real difference, Oliver not only helped raise awareness for Edukid across the local community but also launched a dedicated fundraising campaign. He organised and completed a unique triathlon challenge to inspire donations: swimming 4 miles at RGU Sport, running 3 miles to Aldi, and rounding off his challenge with an impressive 33-mile cycle on a stationary bike within Aldi.

Setting out with an initial fundraising goal of £200, Oliver has exceeded expectations, raising a total of £945 to date.

Kate, Education Manager at Edukid, shared: "'We are so impressed by Oliver's hard work and fundraising efforts. He went over and above to create a campaign to raise awareness of the work our charity does, specifically focusing on the clean water and sanitation projects in Uganda and Cambodia. His fundraising will make a huge difference to the lives of the young people that we work with. Because of his dedication to the fundraising campaign, we have nominated him as a 'fundraiser of the year'."

Mrs McAvinue, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Manager, added: “Oliver's dedication and commitment to his volunteering section at Bronze level just shows the power of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at helping our community on a local, national, and international level.”
