Emma L (class of 2017) has been selected to play for leading netball squads the Strathclyde Sirens and the Scottish Thistles.
 
Strathclyde Sirens is Scotland’s only semi-professional national female sports team competing in the UK wide Vitality Netball Superleague televised on Sky Sports. Playing 10 home matches per season at the world class Emirates Arena in Glasgow, the team play in front of crowds ranging from 1,400 to 4,000 spectators.
 
Currently ranked at number eight in the INF World Rankings (out of 40 Internationally ranked countries), the Scottish Thistles is the senior representative netball team for Scotland. The team compete in a number of international competitions including Netball Europe Championships, the Commonwealth Games and the Netball World Cup subject to qualification. 

Mrs Hardie, Head of PE and Virst VII coach shared: “Emma was an exceptional player at school and captained the First VII to the Scottish Cup finals in 2017. She was the squad Tour Captain on the Sri Lanka Tour in 2016 and played for Gordonians FP Netball in her senior years. Emma was in the First VII from S4 and was a very accurate and speedy GA with a real hunger to win and improve her game. 
 
“Emma achieved exceptional grades at school while balancing Glasgow trips during the week and at weekends to compete with the central belt players. She is such an exceptional role model to our younger pupils and a great demonstration of how hard work really does pay off. To achieve Siren’s selection and now Scottish Thistles selection in the same month is just brilliant and a display of how far she has come.
 
“It is also a hugely exciting time for Scottish Netball currently to have Tamsin Greenway as Head Coach. Tamsin’s playing career is hugely impressive she is a former English Internationalist, seven times Super League Champion, Commonwealth medalist, two time World Cup medalist and now in coaching terms she is known for the very successful netball franchise she set up at Wasps and for her exceptional match analysis on Sky for international fixtures and Super League matches. For Emma to be part of this Scottish set up is hugely exciting. I just had a feeling that Tamsin would like Emma’s fast and agile style of play and I can't wait to watch the progress Emma and the Scottish team make under this outstanding coach. We are all extremely proud of her here at Robert Gordon’s College.”
