Two former Robert Gordon's pupils will be pulling on Scotland colours next month, with siblings Vivien and Vincent Choi both invited to represent Scotland at the 2026 Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships in Canada.

Vincent, Class of 2023 began making his mark in the sport from his first competition, with performances on home soil that put him amongst the strongest lifters of his age and weight category in the world. At just 17 years old and weighing around 58kg, he squatted over 200kg - over three times his own bodyweight and an unofficial world record. Sister Vivien, Class of 2020 soon followed into the sport, and she has forged her own path, competing nationally at championship level and steadily building an impressive competition record, as well as being a regular volunteer within the federation. This year, that work has earned her a place alongside Vincent in the Scotland squad heading to Canada, which will be the largest team Scotland has ever sent to the Commonwealth Championships. 

As an amateur sport, powerlifting is self-funded, with athletes bearing the cost of travel, accommodation, entry and anti-doping fees. With this year's event in Canada, these costs are significant and often a barrier to participation. With that in mind, Vivien and Vincent have set up their own crowdfunding to help them on their way, and would hugely appreciate the help of the Gordonian community:

The RGC connection doesn't stop there, as fellow Gordonian Claire Tocher (Class of 2002) has been involved with Scottish Powerlifting for over a decade and is now Chair and Director of the federation. Claire will also be heading to Canada with Team Scotland, and would love to hear from fellow Gordonians, individuals or businesses interested in supporting the wider team, partnering with Scottish Powerlifting, or simply finding out more about the sport and its growing community.
