Future Pathways: Ben dives into swimming sports scholarship in the USA

International scholarships continue to be an attractive option for pupils aiming to pursue athletic and academic pathways abroad.

Ben, Class of ‘24, inspired by the balance between education and sport and the high standards of swimming in the USA, is diving into a swimming scholarship at Wagner College on Staten Island, New York. He hopes to major in Environmental Studies and potentially International Affairs as part of his scholarship.

Looking back on his time at Robert Gordon’s, Ben highlighted: “My favourite part of school was meeting people from all round the world. RGC is a very culturally diverse place, and getting to mix with people from different cultures has definitely helped me as I head into my university years and beyond.

“My final year at RGC was definitely my favourite. I gained a lot of skills outside the classroom, especially my communication skills. Working with members of the SLT and sports staff to help plan events gave me a foundation in basic communication skills. I’ve already used this with professors at university, and know it will be invaluable in the future when speaking to employers.

“I am really enjoying Wagner. I have made friends with people from all over the world, and It is a very unique experience getting to race as part of the US college system. At the moment, I am still not fully set on what I want my career to look like, but I’m interested in renewables. I’d like to work around the globe helping develop ways to produce renewable energies and create more sustainable lifestyles.”
