Green Library Week 2025

Last week, our Senior School pupils celebrated Green Library Week, a national initiative highlighted the connection between reading, sustainability, and environmental awareness.

Throughout the week, pupils participated in a series of creative and engaging activities, designed to inspire both a love of reading and a sense of responsibility for the planet.

S2 pupils started off the week by reading their favourite books to our library’s green corners,  sharing stories with our leafy companions. The initiative encouraged everyone to think about how nature and literature can coexist in calming, restorative spaces.

Meanwhile, S1 pupils enjoyed a lively sustainability quiz that tested their knowledge of the environment. Teams competed enthusiastically, demonstrating both their reading skills and environmental awareness, with prizes awarded for creativity and teamwork.

Mrs Bukalska, Senior School Librarian, shared: “It was great to see pupils getting involved and sharing their views on climate change, sustainability, and all the issues affecting our planet. Pupils received pencils made entirely from recycled newspapers, and everyone was intrigued to learn that no trees were used in their production.

“Reading to plants was so much fun. The pupils found it therapeutic and relaxing, and it was a great reminder that plants need CO₂ from our exhalations to produce oxygen for us in return. Books, both fiction and non-fiction, were flying off the shelves.  All pupils learned the importance of looking after our planet and ecosystem, and small choices, repeated over time, create monumental results.”
