Former Pupil Gregor Brown’s Call-Up to Scotland’s Senior Rugby Squad

Gregor Brown from the Class of ‘19 has been called up to represent Scotland's senior rugby squad for the Skyscanner Americas Tour this summer. Gregor’s selection to the 37-man squad, announced by Scotland’s head coach Gregor Townsend this month, marks a significant milestone in his impressive rugby career. The tour will see the team compete in international fixtures against Canada, USA, Chile, and Uruguay, with Gregor and nine other players poised for their international debuts.

Gregor said “I am buzzing to be included in the squad for the summer tour and would like to thank all my teachers and coaches at RGC for their support and sacrifices which have enabled me to get where I am today.”

Gregor’s rugby journey began at Robert Gordon’s College, where he not only excelled academically but also shone on the rugby field. His dedication and talent were evident from a young age as he played for the College team, demonstrating remarkable skill and leadership. During this time Gregor was selected for the SRU Caledonia Rugby Programme which was his first step on his pathway to professional rugby.

Outside of school, Gregor played for the Gordonians RFC, further honing his skills and gaining valuable experience. His performances caught the attention of rugby scouts, leading him to join the Boroughmuir Bears for the 2019-20 season of the Super 6 tournament. This step marked his transition from amateur to semi-professional rugby, showcasing his potential to compete at higher levels.

In the 2020-21 season, Gregor’s hard work and perseverance paid off when he was named a member of the Glasgow Warriors academy. He made his debut for the Glasgow Warriors in Round 13 of the Pro14 against Leinster, earning the title of Glasgow Warrior No. 324. Playing as a lock or flanker, Gregor’s versatility and physical prowess have made him an asset to the team.

Gregor has also represented Scotland at the youth level, playing for the Scotland U18 team and making his debut for the Scotland U20 side in the opening fixture of the 2020 U20 Six Nations tournament. His call-up to the senior Scotland squad for the upcoming Americas tour is a testament to his consistent performance and dedication to the sport.

Robert Gordon's College is proud that Gregor m has been named in the Scotland squad for their upcoming tour to the Americas.

"We are absolutely thrilled for Gregor," said Rory McKay, Head of Rugby at the school. "His selection is a testament to his years of hard work and dedication, and a fantastic example to our current students. Gregor has shown that with passion and commitment, you can achieve anything you set your mind to which was evident at the weekend when he made an impressive impact helping secure the URC trophy with Glasgow Warriors "

But Gregor's impact goes beyond his own achievements. "He remains a great role model for our young players," continued Rory McKay. "Gregor has remained connected with the school and our rugby programme. He is always interested in how the next generation is progressing. We can't wait to cheer on Gregor and the whole Scotland team this summer, and of course, we'd love to welcome him back to the school for a visit upon his return."

As Brown prepares to wear the Scotland jersey this summer, the entire Robert Gordon’s College community will be cheering him on, confident that he will make his mark on the international rugby scene.
