Our Higher Human Biology and Higher Biology pupils were delighted to welcome Suzanne Davidson, Senior Staff Nurse in the Cardiac Cath Lab at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, to the College.
Suzanne presented on the types of procedures that she deals with on a daily basis, from clinics to emergency life threatening cases.
The pupils then had the opportunity to examine ECG reads and discuss actions taken by the team and the different treatment options available. They were fascinated with the array of options for diagnosis and treatment demonstrated and they were keen to have the opportunity to handle some of the equipment used.
Suzanne also demonstrated the equipment used, showing different stents, how they would be fitted, and also showed them a heart valve replacement.
Before finishing her presentation, Suzanne shared with the pupils her career path to this specialisation highlighting the different roles possible in the field of medical care.
Mrs Willetts, Teacher of Biology shared: "Thank you to Suzanne for coming in and sharing her expertise with our pupils. Not only did her talk revise Higher Human Biology content but it gave them a real life example of using this knowledge. They were really engaged throughout and enjoyed being able to handle equipment and ask questions. Her pathway to her current role was inspiring and motivating, demonstrating the wide scope of roles in healthcare."
