Historic milestone as U18 Girls’ RGC Football Team plays first competitive fixture

In a groundbreaking event, Robert Gordon’s College Girls’ football team made history by playing their first-ever Under-18 match against the well-established Gordonstoun Sport.

This landmark game will be remembered not only for its competitive spirit but also for the significant milestone it represents in the evolution of girls’ football at the College.

Miss MacIver, Sports Coach, shared: “It was great for the senior girls to have their first game against Gordonstoun on Wednesday. The girls got stuck in straight from the beginning and played some great football. With high intensity throughout, the girls worked together to score some brilliant goals and can be really proud of their efforts. There is a lot more to come from this group in the future and we are all excited to see the girls develop.”

Mr McNeil, Head of Football, added: “Football is ever-growing at Robert Gordon’s College, with provision for both boys and girls from ages 3 to 18. Girls’ football has really taken off this year, off the back of our first ever girls’ matches back in June. Since then, our Wednesday football sessions have grown to having 53 girls at Countesswells each week who are working incredibly hard to develop their skills and are looking forward to more matches in the future.

“Aberdeen FC Women’s player Phoebe Murray has recently joined the College, coaching the girls and serving as a true role model for our aspiring players to look up to. We now have three dedicated girls’ football teams at U13, U15, and U18. It was great to witness some history being made at RGC this week when we played in our first ever U18 girls’ match vs Gordonstoun.”
