Professor Jason Leitch speaks at the inaugural Owain Bristow Curiosity Lecture

Senior School pupils had the pleasure of hearing Professor Jason Leitch, National Clinical Director of the Scottish Government, speak at the inaugural Owain Bristow Curiosity Lecture.

Organised in memory of much loved and missed Head of Biology Owain Bristow, the Curiosity Lecture celebrates Owain’s devotion to science and his pioneering approach to the topic.

With a focus on Covid-19, Professor Leitch gave pupils a warts and all presentation covering the impact of the pandemic and shed light on the mapping tools the Scottish Government use to help mitigate risk to compact the virus.

Pupils and teachers then took the opportunity to ask their questions directly to Professor Leitch. Probing questions like how the vaccine was made so quickly to when we can expect to stop wearing face masks and what it’s like working with First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon were all asked.

Mrs Pirie, Teacher of Physics said: “A highlight to a very difficult academic year for RGC was the Inaugural Owain Bristow Lecture, in which Professor Jason Leitch gave a very fitting tribute.

“Jason not only gave an accessible, informative and engaging lecture to bring us all up to date with the Covid-19 pandemic, he also braved our open Q&A session from our S1-S6 pupils and staff!”
