Interesting Find

The Archives staff received an interesting email at the end of January from Bob Paterson of Hatton. While metal detecting in a field at Pert, near Stracathro Hospital, Bob found a gilt button with the image of a pelican feeding its young from its own breast and the letters RGH. He wrote to ask us if the button was connected to RGC and we were delighted to inform him that it was indeed a button from the school uniform of a pupil of Robert Gordon’s Hospital and dates from the mid-19th century. He has very kindly presented the button to us to add to our collection of memorabilia.
