Zoe D secures place at prestigious jazz summer school

Robert Gordon’s College is proud to announce that Zoe D (S4) has been selected to attend this year’s National Jazz Orchestra of Scotland Summer School

Following a successful online audition, alto Saxophonist Zoe was hand-picked by a team of renowned jazz musicians and educators to join a group of instrumentalists and vocalists aged between 12 and 21.

Zoe will join other jazz lovers at the summer school which will either be remote or at its base on the Isle of Skye with classes focusing on rhythm, harmony, theory and much more to hone her skills.

Zoe commented: “I really enjoyed working towards my audition, and it was a nice challenge doing it remotely. I was introduced to new pieces and jazz techniques such as improvising and I have learned so much. I look forward to the summer school, and whether it takes place remotely or face to face I am sure it will be a great experience.”

Mr Haggart, Head of Music, is thrilled about the news and said: "Many congratulations to Zoe on this great achievement, I am certain that she will gain a huge amount from the summer school and that she will be a great ambassador for Robert Gordon’s College.

“Zoe's success illustrates one of the many ways in which RGC Music is continuing to work hard to allow our pupils to be the best that they can be, despite the COVID restrictions currently in place."

Zoe’s instructor, Mrs Thom added: "Zoe worked so hard towards her audition and this is a very well deserved outcome. Well done Zoe, I am really pleased for you."
