From ideas to action: Junior School Pupil Council

Pupil voice is an integral part of life at Robert Gordon’s College, and our Council Representatives play a key role in shaping the experiences of all pupils. They work together to share ideas, make improvements, and lead initiatives that benefit the school community.

The Junior School Pupil Council have recently been exploring ways to enhance the school’s gymnastic equipment with Miss Stephen, Head of PE and encouraging greater participation during assemblies. Eden and Lily (P6) submitted a fundraising proposal to a benefactor for new gymnastics resources suitable for all ages, emphasising the transferable skills that gymnastics develops, including balance, jumping, and agility, which support a wide range of sports at RGC. Pupil Council Representatives also discussed new ‘Catchboxes’ for pupils to use during assemblies. These fun, passable microphones make it easier for pupils to be heard and help encourage greater participation, making assemblies more interactive and engaging for everyone.

Impressed by their proposals, Hugh Little, Class of ‘75, has generously supported these new initiatives. He said: “I am delighted to support the Junior School Pupil Council in bringing these ideas to fruition. Their enthusiasm, research, and communication skills have been fantastic, and their dedication to enhancing experiences in the Junior School is truly inspiring. I hope the children enjoy the positive impact these new resources will bring across the College.”

Mrs Tulloch, Head of Junior School, commented: “When pupils can tangibly see the impact of their voice and actions in collaboration with the wider community it inspires a really solid confidence and sense of empowerment.”
