Green Beans and Eco Reps lead the way in sustainability throughout Junior School

In our Junior School, the Green Beans and Eco-Reps are at the forefront of driving sustainability initiatives and making a positive impact on the environment.

Throughout Spring, the Green Beans launched an exciting new initiative called ‘Wrapper-Free Wednesday’, which encourages the Junior School community to bring snacks in reusable containers, completely free of wrappers. This initiative not only reduces waste, but helps instill eco-friendly habits in our youngest learners.

During the Summer term, the Green Beans have been participating in a planting project to enhance the school campus. During one of their weekly meetings, the pupils had the opportunity to plant sunflowers for all the Junior School classrooms as well as planting outdoor flowers up the main drive. With the aim of adding colour to the Quad and attracting minibeasts, the pupils worked in small groups as they planted a range of flowers in hanging planters.

In addition, the Green Beans recently held a productive meeting with our Inspire catering team, where pupils and staff exchanged ideas on further enhancing the sustainability of our school’s Dining Hall. They discussed a variety of excellent suggestions, including ways to reduce food packaging waste and improve the overall eco-consciousness of our lunchtime practices.

Meanwhile, our Eco Reps continue to play an essential role in maintaining a clean and eco-friendly school by taking responsibility for litter picking in the playground. With a rotating schedule, every Eco Rep has the opportunity to help keep our school grounds tidy and significantly reduce litter. The positive impact of their efforts is already noticeable, with less litter in the playground and a growing sense of responsibility among the pupils.
