The Nursery this week has been full of suns, stars, snakes, socks, spiders and so much more, as the children have been incredibly busy learning about the initial sound “s” from The Jolly Phonics Scheme. 

We quickly learned the accompanying rhyme and action set to the well-known tune, “The Farmers in the Den.” We have tried hard to write the letter “s” using an impressive tripod grip with our pencils, chalks, and whiteboards pens, tracing out the letter in Fairy Liquid, and we drew some
beautiful pictures of different things beginning with the sound “s”. There did, however, seem to be an alarming amount of realistic looking spiders and snakes for an ophiophobic teacher to cope with!
