Robert Gordon’s College has expanded its award-winning RGC Online programme to support mature students. RGC Online is part of the College’s broader effort to support the growth of the Scottish tech ecosystem and respond to the industry's talent shortage.

RGC Online, developed in collaboration with tech industry experts and academic leaders from Robert Gordon University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), now offers mature students the opportunity to engage in SQA-accredited courses such as Higher Computing Science and Higher Applications of Mathematics, alongside tailored tech-focused modules.

Primarily a digital programme, with live lessons taught twice weekly, online classes provide students with regular one-to-one support and personalised feedback from their teachers. Live teaching is held on the same days each week and scheduled for early evenings to ensure equity of access. 

The RGC Online student experience has been designed so students can interact with their teacher, just as they would in a classroom, and online resources are updated throughout the week, with students completing the work through Google Classroom.

Robin Macpherson, Head of Robert Gordon’s College, emphasised the inclusive nature of this expansion. He said: "With the integration of mature students into RGC Online, we are broadening the horizons for lifelong learning and providing more adults with the opportunity to pivot into tech careers or enhance their current skills. This move aligns with our commitment to educational excellence and innovation."

Jess Power, Head of RGC Online, highlighted the program's adaptability. She said: "We are thrilled to open our doors to a more diverse pool of students. Our platform is designed to be flexible, catering to the unique needs of mature students who may be balancing education with other responsibilities."
