National 5 pupils dive into the world of Medical Physics

Our National 5 physics pupils were delighted to welcome Dr Carnegie and Dr Fox to the College to speak about their role in Radiotherapy, as Medical Physicists at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

The session, which was held in the Craig Centre for Performing Arts, not only broadened the pupils' understanding of the subject, but allowed them to ask questions and engage in discussions with the medical physicists.

Mrs Carnegie, Teacher of Physics, shared: “Dr Carnegie and Dr Fox were able to give them real-world insights into how the knowledge they are learning right now is used to treat up to 70 cancer patients a day in ARI and how they use their essential problem-solving skill set as Physicists. Both of the speakers commented on the numerous, enthusiastic questions they got at the end and thought the group listened very well.”

Mr McEwan, Principal Teacher of Physics, added: “The opportunity to speak with vocational specialists is a valuable one and I am delighted that we are able to offer our pupils these fantastic opportunities to link career opportunities to what pupils are learning in class.”
