New Zealand scholar embraces the Gordon’s experience

We were delighted to welcome Jake, the Robbie Burns Scholar, from St Andrew’s College in New Zealand to the College.

He made the most of every moment during his time here in Aberdeen. From day one, Jake was in on the action, catching our 1st XV rugby match against Loretto, diving straight into RGC’s vibrant sports culture.

On Sunday, Jake sampled the local football as he cheered on Aberdeen v Hearts at Pittodrie Stadium, and on Monday, our school captains proudly toured him around our Schoolhill campus. He even joined our Chamber Choir rehearsal, impressing everyone by already knowing the songs! To top it off, he had the opportunity to go on a grand tour of Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire with Mr Scorgie, Michael and Ananth which gave Jake a true taste of everything the city has to offer.

Jake shared: “I am so thankful for the opportunity to attend RGC for a couple of days. Throughout my time I met some wonderful faces and made some great connections. Despite RGC being on the completely opposite side of the world, I found some great similarities between STAC and RGC, creating a sense of home for me. One day I wish I could return to RGC and Aberdeen.”

School Captain Bella hosted Jake during his visit and said: “It was such a pleasure to host Jake, he is so easygoing and funny, and we all got along amazingly. It was really interesting to learn about New Zealand and what life is like over there. I’m glad he got a real Scottish experience with each of us, and he seemed to love the familiarity RGC had with his home, and I am glad he felt a sense of belonging while he was here. I wish him all the best, and am sure he will find success in whatever he does.”
