RGC appoint new Chair of Board of Governors

We are delighted to announce Robert Gordon’s College's new Chair of Board of Governors is Mr Kevin Reynard, Class of ‘83, who has served on the Board of Governors since 2013.

Taking over the reins from Professor Jimmy Hutchison, Mr Reynard will lead the College through a critical time, during which RGC will continue to rise to the various strategic and economic challenges facing the independent education sector.

Kevin Reynard, former Senior Partner of PwC in Aberdeen says: “As a flagship institution for the North East culturally, historically and economically, I am excited to lead our community through this challenging period.

“It is hugely important that we find new ways of building on the strong foundations of the College, and shaping our strategic partnerships, in alignment with our purpose and vision, enabling Robert Gordon’s to continue to make such a positive contribution to the North East region.

“It is fantastic to see the impact that the achievements of our former pupils, Gordonians, make locally in Aberdeen and around the world, and our priority is to provide the very best start for future generations. As a family returning to Aberdeen from overseas, we didn’t really think about any other school. Beyond my own education at Robert Gordon’s, I have seen first hand the value of the Robert Gordon’s experience through the happiness of my own children, their life-long friendships and the support they received from so many of their teachers.”

Robin Macpherson, Head of College comments: “We were very fortunate to have an outstanding Chair of Governors in Professor Hutchison and he is a tough act to follow. Kevin has exactly the right combination of professional expertise and passion for the school that is required and I’m delighted that he is taking up the position as Chair of our Board of Governors. We’ve worked together closely since I joined Robert Gordon’s and I’ve been impressed by his dedication to the school, and especially his desire to continue enhancing our sector-leading bursary provision.”

Kevin began his educational journey as a pupil at Hazlehead Primary School before joining Robert Gordon’s College in S1 and then studying at the University of Edinburgh. During his time at Robert Gordon’s he enjoyed a variety of subjects as well as swimming and orienteering and less successful attempts at rugby and hockey. His love of sports has continued throughout university and his working life.

Kevin is a Chartered Accountant and enjoyed his entire career with PwC, based in Scotland, San Francisco and Malaysia.  Kevin was an Audit Partner, specialising in audit and related business advisory services, primarily in the Energy sector globally. Kevin was proud to lead PwC’s Energy Centre of Excellence in Aberdeen for eight years and retired in 2022.

Joining the Robert Gordon’s College Board of Governors in 2013, Kevin has served as the Convener of the Finance and Property Committee, the Audit and Risk Management Sub-Committee, and recently been appointed as Chair of Governors.

Kevin is passionate about, and active in, supporting independent and university education as well as sport providing opportunities for young people to fulfil their potential.

Kevin is the Finance Director of the Scottish Orienteering 6 Day Event Company, the Independent Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee for Scottish Swimming and a member of the Audit and Risk Committee at the University of Aberdeen.  Kevin is also the Vice President of Aberdeen Dolphin Swimming Club.

Having led an international career, Kevin places a strong importance on the diversity of an organisation and believes the strongest sense of community comes from being familiar with different regions, languages and cultures to bring additional perspective on education, the world and life.
