P2 explore local environment

As part of our topic on Aberdeen, Primary 2 learned about the characteristics of the local environment by exploring the features of Belmont Street and our school buildings. Mr Paterson brought along lots of photographs and artefacts to teach the pupils about interesting features which are all around us.

Pupils learned lots of new words and phrases whilst looking for road safety signs and street signs. They also discovered that there are many drain covers for water, sewage and waste outside Mr Dun’s hairdressing salon.

The children observed the local environment carefully and recorded their findings in a booklet.  As you can tell from the photographs, the children worked co-operatively to make fantastic rubbings of granite and water covers. They enjoyed the outing immensely.
