Primary 6 pupils support charities during sustainability project

Our Primary 6 pupils have been working hard on their sustainability project this term, raising funds to support The Cyrenians and The Albury Community Sports Hub.

Assigned Sustainable Goal 16, ‘Peace, Justice and Strong institutions’, the pupils started their journey by expanding their knowledge on the importance of fairness, having their voices heard and thinking of others through class games.

The pupils decided they wanted to give back to the local community and help others find peace and comfort. Mrs Reid, Primary 6 teacher shared: “We wrote letters to the charity The Cyrenians to see if they would like our help. They said yes and invited us to visit their office in Summer Street and their Food Warehouse so we could see that part of their operation.  This visit allowed the children to see first hand the struggles that many people have and we discussed what we could do to help.”

The pupils also produced ‘peace’ drawings to give to The Cyrenians which they displayed at their stall at The Aberdeen Highland Games.  They are also going to use them at their stall at The European Pipe Band Championships next weekend then they shall display them at their main office in Summer Street.

The children were challenged to raise money by doing household chores at home and raised an amazing £501.30. The total amount raised has supported The Albury Community Sports Hub as well as a donation of Codonas Amusement Park entertainment tickets to The Cyrenians

Thank you to Codonas Amusement Park who very kindly doubled our entertainment ticket  donation to The Cyrenians. We are also grateful to pupils and staff for their tea, coffee, hot chocolate and sugar donations which were delivered to The Cyrenians Foodbank.
