Primary 7 pupils recently enjoyed an exciting residential trip to Glasgow packed with educational experiences, fun activities and opportunities to develop important life skills. This trip is often a highlight of the school year for Primary 7 pupils, and this time was no different. It provided the perfect balance of learning, adventure and friendship-building as the children prepare for their transition to Senior School.

Throughout the week, pupils took part in a range of educational visits that helped bring their learning to life beyond the classroom. On the way to Glasgow, they visited Blair Drummond Safari Park, where they enjoyed a great day exploring, watching the sea lion show and the birds of prey show, and enjoying a ride on the pedalos.

The next day, they visited Glasgow Science Centre, where pupils explored interactive exhibits and discovered more about the world around them. They also visited both the Planetarium and IMAX theatre within the Science Centre, where they learned some out-of-this-world facts about the International Space Station and life in space.

The learning continued with visits to several museums and attractions. At Hampden Football Stadium and Museum, pupils discovered the history of the Scotland national football team. The year group also enjoyed a visit to the Transport Museum, where they explored an impressive collection of historic vehicles. Another highlight was a trip to Edinburgh Zoo, where pupils learned more about wildlife and conservation.

Alongside the educational experiences, there was plenty of time for fun and adventure. Pupils enjoyed action-packed visits to Flip Out trampoline park and FunParx (Ninja Warrior), where they put their agility and determination to the test. From trampolines and bumper cars to challenging obstacle courses, there was no shortage of excitement. A visit to Topgolf quickly became another favourite activity of the week, along with a relaxing visit to Everyman Cinema to see Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu. Pupils loved tracking the speed and distance of their shots while competing against their friends. Each evening, pupils enjoyed eating out at a variety of restaurants, where they took responsibility for planning their meals and making choices.

The journey home included a final treat with a stop at Dundee Olympia. After a busy week of activities, the swimming pool’s slides, flumes and wave machine were the perfect way to round off the trip.

Beyond all of the exciting and educational visits, the residential offered valuable opportunities for personal growth. Pupils spent time away from home, which helped them to develop independence, confidence and resilience. Managing pocket money and taking responsibility for their own belongings encouraged a growing sense of maturity, which they will find invaluable as they prepare for the move into S1 next year.

The trip provided an important opportunity for pupils to strengthen existing friendships and form new ones, with shared experiences helping to build a strong sense of community within the year group. It also helped prepare them for the next stage of their educational journey. We were incredibly proud of how they represented the school throughout the trip, and we are sure families will continue to hear lots of great stories and highlights in the weeks ahead.
