P7 families embark on the next exciting steps of their educational journey at RGC

Robert Gordon’s College this week welcomed RGC Primary 7 parents to the first of many transition events designed to support the move into S1, an important milestone in every child’s educational journey.

The session began with a warm introduction from Mrs MacLeod, Deputy Head of Junior School, who introduced Mrs Hardie, Head of S1, who work closely together on the transition programme at Robert Gordon’s. Mrs Hardie took parents through the next steps and gave an example of life in S1, before S6 pupils guided families on tours of the Senior School. These pupil-led tours gave Primary 7 families the chance to explore classrooms, specialist teaching areas and social spaces, while also asking questions about daily life as a Senior School pupil. For many parents stepping into the Senior School for the first time, the experience provided welcome reassurance and a clear picture of the exciting years ahead.

Mrs MacLeod, shared: “This first transition event is always a wonderful opportunity to welcome our families and to reassure them about the journey into S1. Our Primary 7 pupils are already well connected to the Senior School through their specialist subject lessons, and this event extends that familiarity to their parents as well. Primary 7 is an exciting year for our pupils as they develop independence and responsibility, explore new learning spaces, and build their confidence well before starting S1.”

Mrs Hardie echoed this sentiment, emphasising the importance of building confidence early. She highlighted: “The transition from Primary to Secondary is one of the most significant steps in a young person’s school career. At Robert Gordon’s College, we are committed to making that step as smooth and positive as possible. Meeting staff, touring the facilities and hearing directly from our senior pupils helps families understand the supportive community their children will continue to be part of as a 3-18 school. There is a wide network of staff and senior pupils surrounding the new S1s to support them on this journey, and ensure they feel at home.”

Many specialist teachers work across both the Junior and Senior Schools, ensuring strong relationships and continuity. Alongside curricular links, pupils take part in a range of transition activities and Welcome Days, giving them opportunities to explore new surroundings, understand new routines, and meet peers from across the wider Gordon’s community, including those joining from other schools; who they will meet in their S1 Houses in May, after successfully completing our Entrance Assessment activities.

As the first event concluded, the enthusiasm of parents and staff reflected the strong sense of community that defines Robert Gordon’s College. With more transition activities planned in the coming months, RGC Primary 7 pupils are already well on their way to becoming confident and excited members of next year’s S1.
