Our Pipe Band have been incredibly busy throughout the month of March, attending and competing in a variety of events across Aberdeen and Scotland. 

On Sunday 12 March, our Competition Pipe Band, featuring the Bydand Ceilidh Club, travelled to Kilmarnock for the Scottish Schools Pipe Band Championships. Competing against 150 other schools, the RGC Pipe Band worked hard both at home and in school to perfect their performance.

Speaking about the day, Mr Sumner, Piping Instructor shared: “We had a great day and the experience we will gain from it as a band will prove invaluable. We didn't place in the prize list but we are proud of both performances which were very musical and professional.”

The Pipe Band were also thrilled to be invited to a promotional photo event ahead of the European Pipe Band Championships being held at Duthie Park on Saturday 24 June 2023. This will be the first time that RGC will be competing at this event and we cannot wait to see how they get on later this year. 

Congratulations to Rory M (S2) who achieved top honours at the Robert Burns World Federation Solo Piping Competition 2023. Held at the Belmont Academy in Ayr, Rory gained 1st Prize in the senior competition and was also crowned Champion Piper.

At the end of March, pupils from across the College competed in the RGC Annual Solo Piping, Drumming and Highland Dancing Competition and display. Held here at Schoolhill, the competition provided the pupils with the opportunity to demonstrate their talent and skills to guests, as well as celebrating Scotland’s rich tradition of Pipe Band music, Highland Dancing and Scottish National Dancing.
