Medical experts inspire future healthcare heroes

Primary 3 pupils were thrilled to welcome four sets of parents from the medical field to the Junior School Lecture Theatre recently who shared insight into each of their roles working in healthcare.

After learning about the circulatory system, the human skeleton and the digestive system in class, the children were excited to expand their knowledge on cardiology from Dr Fernando and Dr Gunasekar, the musculoskeletal system and occupational health from Dr Odoyoye, anaesthesiology from Dr Coventry, and health and wellbeing from Oncologist, Dr Law.

The parents also spoke with pupils about how to keep healthy and demonstrated medical equipment such as a stethoscope and an oxygen finger monitor.

Matthew, P3 said: “My favourite fact was that smiling uses more muscles than if you have a sad face.”

Miss Jamieson, Principal Teacher of Junior School, added: “These visits brought the topic to life and created a meaningful and purposeful learning experience. Everyone in Primary 3 is trying to make sure we are always smiling to exercise our muscles!”
