Rory pipes his way to victory at national competition

Robert Gordon’s College is proud to announce that Rory M (P7) was crowned Under 12 Champion Piper at the National Piping Centre Junior Competition. 

Novice A member of the Robert Gordon’s College Pipe Band, Rory placed in the prize lists for all three of the categories he entered following online video submissions. 

This annual event celebrates the best in young piping, from all pipers aged under 18 years old and this year marked its 25th anniversary. To celebrate the milestone, the competition widened to include more categories, events and a brand new freestyle category, which allowed competitors to get creative with technology, other instruments and their own compositions.

Mr Sumner, Piping Instructor of the Robert Gordon’s College Pipe Band said: “We are extremely proud of Rory for his achievement at the National Piping Centre Junior Competition. 

“Not only was it a special year with the competition celebrating its 25th anniversary but this year broke entry records receiving entries from 132 competitors across the UK and internationally. Well done Rory!”

1st place - Rory Menzies

2nd place - Rory Menzies 

  • U12 Champion Piper – Rory Menzies
