S1 Reading Champions with certificates

A group of pupils from S1 made great successes after putting their literary knowledge to the test at the National Reading Champions Quiz 2021.

Anjolaoluwa O, Chinenye A, Calum G, Emilia G, Faith D, Finlay W, Josephine M and Thijmen V formed two teams to join a regional heat to compete online against 20 teams from across the North of Scotland.

In a true celebration of literature, pupils were put to the test with 100 questions to demonstrate how much they have learned from reading along with being given the opportunity to share their love of books with like-minded youths.

Miss England, Teacher of English, said: “It was an absolute pleasure to get to spend the morning working with such enthusiastic, kind and interesting young readers.

“The competition was fierce and while we did not place this year, it was lovely to see the pupils talking and laughing with one another and sharing their love of books. They were, as always, a credit to themselves and the College.

“My personal highlight was being sent away with a list, covering several pages, of books recommended to me for the summer - an English teacher's dream!”

Mr Clement, Head of Senior School Library added: “Even though the competition took place online, the pupils' enthusiasm was still as lively. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed putting their literary knowledge to the test. Congratulations to all who took part.”

To mark their participation, each pupil was awarded a certificate along with a voucher to spend at Waterstones.
