S5 pupils explore future pathways at UCAS Discovery Day 2025

Some of our S5 pupils had the valuable opportunity to attend the UCAS Discovery Day held at the University of Aberdeen.

The event brought together representatives from universities, colleges, and apprenticeship providers from across the country, offering pupils the chance to explore a wide range of future pathways. It encouraged them to reflect on their own interests, strengths, and ambitions, while also highlighting the many different routes into rewarding careers.

Commenting on their experience at the event, one S5 pupil said: “Informative, lots of information, prospectuses, and good talks about careers with useful tips and advice.”

Another added: “I'm more interested in Edinburgh, and I'm happier about the books I received.”

Mrs Pirie, Head of Universities and Careers, said: “It was great to chat informally with pupils throughout the afternoon, encouraging discussions with providers, answering questions, and hearing what they had discovered during their visit.

“Our pupils took every opportunity to attend talks on a variety of subject areas as well as gain apprenticeships and application advice. Representatives from universities, apprentice providers, and the Armed Forces were on hand to support them and answer their many questions. A great afternoon was had by all, and the Universities and Careers team is really looking forward to seeing the positive impact of the experience on future applications and beyond school destinations.”
