Robert Gordon’s College to host Saltire Energy Caledonia Cup

The Saltire Energy Caledonia Cup, the largest regional rugby Finals Day in the country, will be hosted by Scottish Rugby and Robert Gordon’s College on Sunday 24 March 2024.

A total of 24 teams from across the Caledonia region will congregate in Aberdeen at the Countesswells Sports Field. The sides have competed in a series of regional leagues and then Cup, Shield, and Bowl knockout rounds, culminating in 16 boys’ and eight girls’ teams reaching the Finals Day event.

The series of games will be played at three intervals, with the first kicking off at 10.30 am.

Ahead of the event Vicky Cox, Head of Competitions & Compliance at Scottish Rugby, said: “This event marks a new collaboration with Robert Gordon’s College, whose campus will offer an enhanced spectator and player experience for the Saltire Energy Caledonia Cup.

“We’re delighted to continue supporting our Caledonia clubs and communities to access a long-standing and meaningful competition that encourages participation and opportunities for players from across this unique and vibrant region.”

In recognition of the event, Scottish Rugby will be displaying the Calcutta Cup in the marquee, from 2.30pm onwards, to allow those present on the day to see the trophy in person.

The competition continues to be sponsored and supported by Saltire Energy, a leading rental specialist in oil and gas equipment to the global energy sector, whose headquarters are based in the north-east city.

Chief Executive at Saltire Energy, Mike Loggie said: “As part of Saltire Energy’s partnership with Scottish Rugby, we are delighted to once again support the Saltire Energy Caledonia Cup. The competition celebrates an inclusive environment for Caledonian clubs and communities and has seen record numbers of teams entering year after year.

“The event signifies the positive impact sport has and celebrates the key values that are fundamental to what we stand for at Saltire Energy; respect, leadership, achievement, engagement and enjoyment.

“I wish all involved the very best of luck, the day will no doubt hold many successes but most importantly it will be a fun, exciting and enjoyable event for all involved.”

Robin Macpherson, Head of Robert Gordon’s College, shared: “We are proud to partner with Scottish Rugby and to bring flagship sporting events to the North East of Scotland. Sport underpins so much of what we do at the College, and our vision is to continue to establish regional and national partnerships to enhance development and fulfil our ambition of creating new sporting opportunities for the wider community.”
