Sport Update: w/c 26 November 2018

Rugby

The wild weather on Wednesday didn’t dampen the spirits of the 2nd XV as they travelled to Montrose Rugby Club for a match after school. The game was close with Montrose eventual winners. Thankfully it was brighter at Countesswells on Saturday when we welcomed Strathallan School. There were wins for the S3B, S2A and S1A teams with S1A coach Mr Anderson commenting, “Our strong tackling and defensive pressure were really good today. We moved the ball away from contact very quickly.”

Girls Hockey

Saturday saw a very successful end to the girls hockey fixtures for this term with wins against Gordonstoun for all 3 of our participating teams: 1st XI, S3A and S2A. The remaining teams enjoyed practice games at Countesswells. All our girls should be proud of how they have performed and improved this session.

Netball

Netball at RGC goes from strength to strength with another excellent week of results. Our P6 and P7 girls enjoyed a fun festival with Hazlehead Primary and Cults Primary on Monday afternoon. Senior RGC netball players were coaching and umpiring our aspiring primary players and Mrs Axten was delighted to see them acting as positive leaders and role models to our Junior School netballers.
On Tuesday S1 netball travelled to Cults Academy for a friendly match. Mrs Fraser praised the girls for transferring the hard work they have done on movement and passing in training into a competitive match environment.
The success of our Senior netball teams continued on Thursday with the Senior B girls winning the ASSNA district tournament closely followed in 2nd place by the Senior C team. Mrs Axten congratulated the girls and commented, “I am so impressed with their performance and the Senior teams rising to the challenge of beating all of the 7 city schools. This is an excellent boost to their confidence and a result of their hard work and commitment.”

Skiing

It was a very early start for the Junior School skiers on Tuesday and Senior School skiers on Wednesday morning as they travelled to the Braehead Ski Dome in Glasgow for the Skier and Boarder Cross Championships. A team of 10 Junior School skiers represented RGC, coming 6th place out of 21 competing schools. In the Senior School section there was success for Emilia A (S3) winning gold and Seb A (S1) taking bronze in the S1-S3 categories. A tally of team points saw the Seniors finish 5th overall with 6 other skiers in the top 20 in Scotland for their categories.

Basketball

The basketball team were delighted with their win over Lochside Academy last Monday with coach Mr McCormick impressed with their attacking and defence that saw contributions from all ten players.

Team of the Week: Senior Netball for their success in the ASSNA district competition.
