Sport Update w/c 3 June 2019

Cricket

Our P6 cricket team enjoyed their day at the Red Ball Cricket Festival on Monday, hosted by Aberdeenshire Cricket Club at Mannofield. Children from six primary schools in the city came together to practice their cricket skills and play matches against each other.

Unfortunately the U12 Girls Cricket Festival at The Mary Erskine School in Edinburgh was cancelled on Saturday due to the weather.

Swimming

A team of 32 swimmers represented RGC in the Scottish Schools Relay Team Championships at the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh on Wednesday. The swimmers were up against some very tough competition but showed the strength we have in our squad by winning silver in the Open Boys 4 x 50m Freestyle and 4 x 50m Medley as well as bronze in the for 12yrs & under 4 x 50m Medley.

Golf

The Aberdeen Schools League came to an exciting end against Cults Academy on Wednesday. Robbie B and Matthew S unfortunately lost the first match and were followed onto the course by Lewis R and Mark C who played in a thriller with the lead constantly changing. Our boys won the 16th hole then Cults came back with a birdie on the 17th and Mark’s 12 foot curling putt into the 18th hole secured our win by 1 hole. With a Cults win followed by an RGC win, the match was a tie and went to a playoff hole. Matthew was back on form after the disappointment of the first match and hit an excellent wedge shot into the hole to secure the RGC win. After beginning in April and luck being on our side throughout, we retained the trophy for the first time.

Athletics

On Friday we took a team of 9 pupils from S1-S6 to participate in the Scottish Schools Track & Field Championships at Grangemouth Stadium. Some of our pupils made the finals of their events and congratulations go to Angela K (S2) who won silver in the Group C Shot Put with a new PB of 11.11m.

Hockey

Ailsa P (S3) and Eilidh S (S4) represented Scotland again at the weekend in the U16 Girls Hockey series, this time against Ulster in Belfast. Scotland won the series, winning all 3 matches: 5-1, 4-3 and 4-2.

Team of the Week: The Senior Golf Team for winning the Aberdeen Schools League.
