Sport Update Week Commencing 29 April 2019

Cricket

There was great excitement at Countesswells on Wednesday as we hosted our first ever  girls cricket match. The girls from P6 up to S1 were very proud to be part of this historic occasion in which they played against Gordonstoun School. The match was very tight with RGC winning by 64 runs to Gordonstoun’s 60.

On Wednesday our P6 and P7 teams also welcomed Gordonstoun School. It was a great afternoon of cricket with both sides evenly matched and the scorelines tight. RGC won both matches: P6 149 runs to Gordonstoun’s 138 and for P7 it was 126 runs to RGC and 125 to Gordonstoun.

Athletics

The annual Aberdeen Amateur Athletics Club event took place at Aberdeen Sports Village on Saturday, an unusually cold May day. There were 20 RGC pupils competing in the track and field events from P4 up to P7. We were delighted with the pupils’ performance with many qualifying for the finals of the various events. Overall results were as follows:

Our P6 a nd P7 Sports Day heats took place at Countesswells this week. The pupils are gearing up for an exciting day of track and field at this annual school event on Saturday 1st June.

Hockey

Eilidh S (S4) was selected to play again in the Scotland U16 girls hockey squad following on from the success of the recent series against Wales. This time they faced England in Glasgow over the weekend, who proved to be tough opponents. Scotland lost the first match 3-0 and then performed well on Sunday to lose by just one goal, final score 2-1 to England.

Team of the Week:  This week it goes to Girls Cricket for their first ever fixture. Well done to all the girls and Mr Horne for making this happen.
