UK Maths Challenge Win

A team of four pupils from S1 and S2 progressed to the national final of the UKMT Team Maths Challenge after winning their regional heat at Elphinstone Hall, University of Aberdeen.

This challenge provides a unique opportunity for a team of two S1 and two S2 pupils to represent their school and showcase their mathematical knowledge at a regional heat with the aim of winning the prestigious opportunity of competing with teams from across the UK in London in June.

Sharing his experience, Ananth (S1) said: "After going through four weeks of trials to pick the best possible team, Mr McCormick chose Jonathan (S2), Will (S2), Manu and myself. We were all euphoric at being chosen and were thrilled and excited for the forthcoming heat. Our team was confident that the hours of training we had done in previous sessions would do us well, where we practiced the various events that we would tackle on the day, namely the group round, crossnumber, shuttle and relay. Throughout the day, though we were tested and challenged, it was a very enjoyable and sublime experience, one that I’m sure all of us will remember for times to come.

"It was a thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding day for us. We were elated with the victory and were eagerly waiting for the national final in London in June. However, due to the outbreak of COVID-19, we unfortunately cannot attend. Still, the experience we gained was invaluable and we will cherish the memorable day."
