Exploring global opportunities: Study in the US careers event

Pupils from schools across Aberdeen joined us at Robert Gordon’s College this week for a special Careers Event: Study in the US, held in partnership with the Harvard Club of the UK (HCUK).

The event took place in MacRobert Hall, which saw an excellent turnout of pupils from local schools, all eager to learn more about international university opportunities. The evening included an engaging presentation on studying in the United States, with a particular focus on the application process for top US institutions, including Harvard University.

Mrs Cairns, Chief Finance and People Officer at Robert Gordon’s College, serves as Co-Chair of the Harvard Club UK (Scotland). She is a Harvard Business School alumna and is passionate about inspiring young people to pursue education beyond national borders and to seek the best opportunities in which they can thrive. Reflecting on the recent event, she commented: "I feel fortunate to have studied at an institution that is at the forefront of research and fosters critical thinking. Working at Robert Gordon’s College, I am now in a position where I can give back to Aberdeen and its young people, encouraging them to follow their ambitions and realise their potential. The curiosity shown during the event made clear that many pupils in Aberdeen are eager to pursue opportunities that align with their aspirations, whether nationally or globally and I hope each of them will achieve their dreams."

Mrs Pirie, Head of Universities and Careers at Robert Gordon’s College, highlighted: “We continue to see growing enthusiasm among our pupils for exploring US and international university pathways, reflecting a broader trend across the UK. We are delighted to share this opportunity with local schools and to help bring such exciting global opportunities to the wider education community.

"Our sincere thanks go to the Harvard Club of the UK for their partnership and for supporting such a valuable and inspiring event for our pupils and the wider community. We are already looking forward to planning for next year's event and building on the success of this year's programme."

The Harvard Club of the UK has reported increasing interest from UK students in applying to US universities. This past year, nearly 900 students from more than 120 UK schools submitted applications to Harvard alone.
